Legal cases
Legal cases
A legal case is anything where you're tracking a court file, a lawyer, or a regulatory complaint connected to a property. Most commonly: eviction proceedings, deposit disputes, neighbour disputes, building violation orders.
Adding a case
From a property edit page → Legal cases tab → New legal case, or from sidebar → Property → Legal cases → New.
Fields:
- Case number — your internal reference, or the court file number if you have it.
- Type — eviction, deposit dispute, building violation, contract dispute, other.
- Status — open, in progress, on hold, settled, dismissed, won, lost.
- Filed date and next hearing date.
- Court — name of the court / arbitration body.
- Lawyer — name and contact.
- Opposing party — typically the renter, but can be a neighbour or contractor.
- Estimated cost / claim amount — for tracking exposure.
- Description — free text.
Hearing reminders
Set a next hearing date and the system auto-creates a reminder for 3 days before. You can also add custom reminders manually from the property's Reminders tab — for example, a deadline to file a counter-claim or to respond to discovery.
Documents tab
Like properties and leases, legal cases inherit the documents pattern — attach court filings, lawyer's letters, evidence photos, settlement agreements. They live alongside the property's other documents but are visually grouped under the case.
